2026 Project Rafiki

Hamjambo (Greetings) Project Rafiki Family,

Every January, I start counting down the days until I return to Kenya with a group of SLIK students in June and reaffirm goals for Project Rafiki to empower hundreds of young Kenyans and their teachers.  My gratitude for everyone who has supported Project Rafiki over the years is boundless, and this year I’m reaching out to even more people connected to SLIK so that we can achieve even greater things together in 2026.

Project Rafiki has truly found its stride in supporting the Naro Moru community. By providing desks to SLIK-affiliated schools, building much-needed classrooms or science labs each year, and organizing leadership and team-building opportunities for students from Naro Moru, we're making a meaningful difference. This approach to community service is impactful, and with your ongoing support, we can continue Project Rafiki’s tradition of enhancing learning environments to assist hundreds of students realize their full academic potential.

Goals for 2026:

Current classrooms at Kirinyaga School

#1 – The construction of two new classrooms at Kirinyaga Primary School. Kirinyaga is further away from the town of Naro Moru than the other schools we work with and often overlooked when it comes to government funded building projects.  The Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms are made of rough cut lumber with dirt floors, leaving no question that this is a top priority for Project Rafiki.

Fundraising target - $18,000.00

Current desks at Kirinyaga School

#2 – The purchase of 380 desks to be divided by the ten schools partnering with SLIK.

Fundraising target - $17,000.00

#3 – To surpass our fundraising goal of $35,000.00 with additional funds to sponsor local primary school groups for teambuilding and leadership programs at Batian’s View Experiential Education Center.

Tax-deductible donations can be made through the Hansen Foundation for Education (HFE) at the website www.hansenfoundationforedu.org/.  At the bottom of this page is the ‘Donate’ tab and on the next page open ‘Donate To Project Rafiki’.

Being a part of Project Rafiki is not simply a donation, but an investment in the education and well-being of a community of primary school students and teachers.  I am humbled by the generosity so many have extended in the past and with your help the 2026 Project Rafiki campaign will bring another year of positive change and growth for many young learners in rural Kenya.

With deep appreciation,

Fred Roberts
